Description

The NSSB was a Design Build delivery approach led by Hensel Phelps Construction. This eight story project is 274,750 SF and has approximately 700 occupants. It was conceived as a replacement to the SM43 Headquarters building for the Laboratory and is a central feature of the primary LANL campus in Technical Area Three (TA3). The occupants include LANL Laboratory Director’s office and support staff as well as scientists/weapons designers from X Division. The buildings other role is to house secure records storage facility built to NARA guidelines and house the Laboratory’s 600 seat lecture hall. The location for this new facility represents the first part of the Laboratory’s desire to create an academic style campus master plan with a secure perimeter and central green space ringed by technical/office facilities. Construction was completed in February of 2006.
